The Room Voted for the Argument
Asta won the People's Choice Award at the ARCE 2026 pitch competition in Accra. Here is what we said in five minutes, and what we think the vote actually meant.
Asta won the People's Choice Award at the ARCE 2026 pitch competition, held at The Palms Convention Center in Accra from 14 to 16 October. Thank you to the ARCE team for running it, and to everyone in that room who voted.
A people's choice award is a particular kind of signal. A judging panel scores a company. A room scores a problem — whether you named something they already live with. So the useful thing to report is not that we won. It is what we put in front of them.
Five minutes, one line
We had five minutes and no Q&A. The pitch opened with a question: who did you ask before you bought your land in Ghana?
The answer, in that room, in almost every room in this country, is an uncle. A cousin who knows the area. A friend of the family who has done this before. And the line that carried the whole pitch was this:
An uncle is not a due diligence process.
That is not a joke about families. It is a statement about where the risk actually sits. Most property loss in Ghana is not dramatic fraud. It is a plot sold twice. A house on a watercourse. A price no local would have paid. Those three things happen to careful people who did everything they were told to do, because the thing they were told to do was to ask someone they trust — and trust is not the same as verification.
What we showed
Then we stopped talking and opened the map.
One plot in Prampram. Asking price on the screen, risk score beside it. From abroad it looks like a bargain. We turned on the flood layer, then the no-build layer, and the corridors lit up — every one of them a risk we computed rather than an opinion someone offered. Then we opened the Dossier: verified photographs, a GPS pin, the risk broken into its factors with the inputs underneath, and a share link.
That share link is the part that matters. Evidence you cannot forward is not much use to an investor. The Dossier is built to be sent — to a bank, to a lawyer, to a brother in Maryland who is wiring half the deposit and has reasonable questions about where it is going.
One plot. About two minutes. That was the demo.
What we did not claim
We also said, on stage, what we do not do.
Asta does not verify land title. No listing platform can. For the seller's legal right to sell, you need a formal search on the specific parcel and a lawyer who will read it. We score flood and drainage exposure, no-build and setback geometry, protected-area conflicts and price deviation, and we show the inputs behind every number so you can take it apart. That is a real thing. It is not title, and we will not blur the two to sound more impressive than we are.
We think saying that out loud is part of why the room responded. Every person voting had heard a platform overclaim before.
What happens next
The invitation we made on stage stands, and it is the same one for everybody:
Banks & insurers
A ninety-day pilot on our live API, scoring parcels against your own book.
Agents & agencies
List free, we verify. Present inventory with evidence instead of pressure. See how.
Government & agencies
Partnership on flood and no-build data, in both directions.
Investors
Help us take this continent-wide. Start at Investment.
And if you are an individual buyer rather than an institution, the most useful thing we have published this month is not this note. It is the long version of the argument: Due Diligence Is Not Optional, which lays out the four checks that sit between your capital and those three failure modes, in the order you should run them.
Bring us a plot you care about and we will show you its Dossier.
Trust, verified.
